How To Design A Website According To The Standards Of Search Engines

Search engines play an important role in making Internet browsing systematic. Ninety one percent of Internet users rely on search engines to find and retrieve information about a certain product, service, person or any subject matter that they find interesting. And most importantly, online visitors regard the top returned results as the most credible references for the information they are seeking. That is why it makes sense to make a web design that adheres to search engines’ protocols.

The simplest way to understand how search engines work is to compare them to the system that libraries commonly apply, the Dewey Decimal System. A library catalog is present in all libraries. A library catalog is a systematic list of all bibliographic items found in the library. Researchers will surely find the books included in the bibliographical entries. But those researchers will not find those that are not processed yet even though they are physically present in the library.

The same way goes for search engines. Thousands of websites exist in the World Wide Web, but not all of them are accessible to search engine users. This is because search engine spiders can “read and understand” only the information (found in a particular web page) that has been indexed.

But to generate traffic to a website, it’s not enough to create a web design that adheres to the ranking standards of search engines. A website needs optimisation so that it will land a consistent spot in the first page of search engines result list.

So aside from the visual value of the web design, websites also need to contain relevant information for it to become favorable to spiders. Relevant, key word-driven and regularly updated web content helps companies drive quality traffic to their website.

Plainly put, designing a website for search engines means mastering both the site architecture and its content. Remember though that mastering web optimisation is not a one-time process. It involves maintenance, monitoring and even continuous testing to ensure that the website is accessible and retrievable.

5 Tips For Writing Awesome Blog Posts

Writing a blog post is easy, but following a few simple guidelines will make your posts addicting and have readers coming back for more.

The great part about blogs & “blogging” is that you have the freedom to write in any style you want about almost anything you want. You have to be careful to make sure that all that freedom doesn’t get in the way of you writing a quality post.

There are some main guidelines that people still expect when visiting blogs and general rules you should follow:

  1. Target about 250 words per post – The average person does not stay engaged reading for very long. By limiting the word count of your post by being brief but concise, your entire message has a better chance of being received by the reader. Exceptions do exist but a 250 word target is generally best.
  2. Write as you would speak to a friend – A friendly, conversational tone when writing is best. The best blogs embrace showcasing their personality, humor and friendliness in their posts. Yours should too. Write as you would when talking to a good friend.
  3. Stay focused on your topic – Before creating your blog you should have chosen a particular topic or niche to focus on. Your blog posts should rarely stray away from this topic. If you are talking about anything and everything on your blog then you are talking to no one. Stay focused.
  4. Be Creative – Detailed descriptions, pictures, models, bullet lists and graphs are all great ways to engage readers. People are attracted to visual stimulants more than just text. They will add great flavor and appeal to your posts.
  5. Space Your Post – Most people don’t read anything these days, they skim. Posts that are spaced well for easy skimming are more effective. Use lots of space and short 2-3 sentence paragraphs.

Use these 5 tips anytime you write a post and you will attract more readers
