Home Business Copywriting Psychology Secret
Why Moving Away From Pain Is More Effective In Home Business Copywriting…
Anytime you write an ad or sales copy for your home business you have 2 choices:
- Influence prospects by using examples that move them away from pain
- Influence them with examples that move them towards pleasure
The answer to this has been proven over time in countless studies and split-tests.
Influencing people by using examples that move them away from pain are more effective!
For example, using scenarios like:
“Start your own home business so your boss can’t yell at you anymore!”
“Do it so you can avoid breaking your childs heart when you can’t afford to give them any presents for christmas.”
“Start now so you don’t have to spend another minute not being appreciated for your hard work.”
It’s not hard to tell that each of those statements were negative, pain triggering statements that most people can unfortunately relate to in some way.
On the flip side, there are pleasure focused statements such as:
“Start a home business so you can drive a brand new Ferrari.”
“Make extra money online so you can buy thos new shoes you’ve been wanting.”
“Take action now so you can take a trip to Mexico and bury your toes in the warm white sand while sipping on a drink with an umbrella in it.”
While these are pleasant thoughts, they don’t motivate people nearly as much as painful and emotional triggers do!
People dream about pleasure statements more than they actually do anything about them!
Next time you do any copywriting for home business make sure the benefits of what you offer move people away from pain because they are the most effective way to get people to take action.

Write Home Business Copy So Good It Sells Itself
Anytime you advertise your company, product or business opportunity in anything from a 3 line text ad to a full page sales letter it is critical to write effective, motivating sales copy to influence people to take action.
3 elements your copy should ALWAYS meet:
- It offers immediate value to your target audience
- Benefit to your target audience is 90% of the message
- The needs and pains of your prospect are triggered
Following these guidelines and you will have higher conversions with more sales.
Step 1 means you offer immediate value such as educating people about working from home, teaching them how to market, or showing them a behind the scenes look at your business as insiders.
Free offers are also a good way to motivate people.
Things like downloads, training videos, podcasts, an article series, are all value-driven free offers you can promote.
Do not pitch your business.
Step 2 is always important when you write copy. SHOW people how they DIRECTLY benefit from your advertisement.
Don’t write generic company info in your ad such as details about your industry, company or product. Talk about how you directly benefit the prospect. Offers like how to save money, free reports, e-books, or video series that save your prospect time, money or energy is key.
Step 3 is where you touch on your target markets emotions and needs. If you can provide people with a personal reason to relate to what you’re saying then they will listen to what you have to say very closely and with an open mind.
This is always important when you write copy. When you connect on a personal level and trigger that “Hey, this sounds like me” voice in people’s head your offer will begin to make more sense to them and they will be more likely to take action.
That is why you write ad copy, to get people to TAKE ACTION!
3 Easy Steps To Becoming An Expert Copywriter
The 3 easy steps to becoming an expert copywriter are simpler than you might think. They are tried-and-true writing practices that anyone can do and they have been used by advertising agencies and marketing experts in all forms of business for years.
Before I get to what the 3 steps are though, let me briefly explain what copywriting means.
Simply put, copywriting is the act of writing copy…
And copy, is anything that is a written verbal message to market or advertise a product or service…
So to summarize in one sentance…copywriting is the act of writing sales or promotional materials to get consumers to buy goods or services.
Think of “copy” as sales writing that trys to get you to buy something.
Copywriting is important for one straight-forward reason, to make sales.
Expert copywriters spend less time copywriting than “rookies” and amateurs do and get higher sales conversion rates.
In other words, they make more money.
It certainly pays to know how to write good copy.
So how do you become an expert?
It’s really quite simple, many of the experts and good copywriters never went to school for writing copy nor do they have PhDs in psychology and consumer behavior.
They’ve simply followed the 3 easy steps to becoming an expert copywriter I’ve outlined below:
1. Start reading copy - the first and most crucial step is to get an understanding of what copy is and the best way to do that is to read copy. You can find copy in newspapers, magazines and all over the internet. But be careful though, remember that copy is sales writing, don’t spend your time looking over picture ads because those are not copy.
For a good example go to www.RealOnlineProfits.com and look over the page. That’s the kind of quality copy you need to be looking at and studying.
2. Create a SWIPE file - A swipe file is a word document or text file where you copy (literally) and paste the headlines, sub-heads, introductions, special offers, closing statements, etc… of sales pages you come across on the internet.
This is best done by creating a separate file for each part of a page’s copy…for example, create one file exclusively for storing headlines, one for sub-heads, one for introductions and so on…
The point is to make a database for every part of a sales copy letter. You then use the database you create as a reference for your own ideas and copywriting.
Let me be clear though, you don’t just copy and paste other peoples words and use them as your own! That is not what a swipe files is for. Once you do create a swipe file and use it ethically, you save yourself tons of time creating copy and learn to recognize what good copy is all about.
3. Practice writing copy-So far you haven’t had to do much work except browse the internet, read a little, and copy and paste what you find…see its easy!
Now for the hard part that you’ve made simple already by creating a swipe file. You’ve taken advantage of the fact that people have already done the work for you, this is what I call “leverage”.
No need to re-invent the wheel, your just following in the footsteps of what expert copywriters have been doing for years!
Now just piece together a sales copy using your swipe file as a reference and…wala! You’re on your way to becoming and expert copywriter the same way the experts started.
Don’t be nervous about your copy being perfect, no copy ever is! Just start practicing, follow the 3 easy steps to becoming an expert copywriter and you will be in no time!
Enjoy!
